For immediate release. Please announce the following not-for-profit event:

Battle On the Bernard Tug-of-War Getting Nearer

As Spring Break nears, the Battle On the Bernard (B.O.B.), a friendly tug of war brought to the public by West of the Brazos communities, is preparing for the second annual tug March 27, 2010. The family friendly event held on the San Bernard river at FM 2611 in the area under Sportsman Span bridge, offers something for the whole family – food, fun and tugs for all ages.

New this year is a tug for the youngsters - a “Kids Tug”. The children’s tug will begin at 12:15 p.m. on the west side of the river. Those participating in this event should be at the tug site by noon. The age groups for the Kids Tug are: ages 6 and under, 7-10, and 11-13. Each team will consist of no less than 6 kids and no more than 10. For rules and application forms, visit: www.battleonthebernard.com .

Also new this year is the Teen Tug designed for competitive youth between the ages of 14 – 17. Their tug will be on the big rope across the river against other teen teams and will take place before the first adult tug of the day. Fourteen team members will be allowed on the 2 minute tug.  Those participating in this event must be registered by noon. For the entire list of rules and application forms, visit: www.battleonthebernard.com .

Adult tug teams up to 20 strong (only 12 at a time will actually be doing the 2 minute tug) should be registered (registration is free) and signed in and ready to go for the first “tug” of the day scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Adult teams will be limited to the first 16 teams who enter – so don’t wait until the event to register! Additionally, the first two teams who register will receive 12 free event caps. Teams can register early by the team captain with just the team name - just make sure the team is getting ready to tug hard. Register early to assure your team gets a chance to compete!

So… if you are in any age group and involved in any organization (school bands, football teams, cheerleaders, volunteer fire departments, police departments, service organizations, or just a group of friends who would like to pull together,  B.O.B. would like to see you at the “tug” with a team. Gloves are recommended for a better grip on the rope and to protect participant hands during the tug.

If you are a non-profit group, there are still spaces for booths at the event for no charge. There are also spaces for “for-profit” vendors. You may register with the Pct. 4 county office in Brazoria, or application forms are available on the Battle On the Bernard website.

Battle On the Bernard t-shirt and event ball cap sales help defray the expense of the event and make a good souvenir. They are currently for sale at the Brazoria, West Columbia, and Sweeny Chambers of Commerce as well as Precinct 4 county offices in Brazoria and High 5 Bar and Grill - t-shirts for $10.00 and ball caps for $12.00. Don’t be the only one in the county without one!

Spectators for the event should come with an appetite - vendors will be selling all kinds of treats and beverages. Bring your lawn chairs, your cameras and get set for a break from the ordinary with this one of a kind event in the whole state of Texas – right in your back yard – just in time for a Spring Break!

Get ready to show your community pride.  Get out there, gather your team, flex your muscles and get ready to tug. Don’t forget to check out the website, www.battleonthebernard.com for more information and to see photos of the latest B.O.B., the pelican, sightings. If you see B.O.B., be sure to send in your sighting! B.O.B. is on vacation and is slowly making his way back to the San Bernard in order to officiate over the contest and award the winners of the second annual tug-of war.
