Battle of the Bernard open to all ages

Spring Break is a great opportunity to join the competition of The Battle On the Bernard (B.O.B.), a friendly tug of war brought to the public by West of the Brazos communities, March 27. With 900 feet of "war" rope, trophies and ribbons, a clean-up of the areas on the San Bernard River at the FM 2611 Sportsman Span/Churchill Bridge, the family-friendly event is taking shape.

For rules, team applications, vendor applications and sponsorship forms visit www.battleonthebernard.com or contact the Pct. 4 county office at (979) 798-2159, or Pat Webb at (979) 964-4503.

Battle On the Bernard’s mascot, B.O.B. the pelican, invites everyone to investigate the fun awaiting them on the San Bernard. New this year is a tug for the youngsters - a "Kids Tug." The children’s tug will begin at 12:15 p.m. on the west side of the river. The age groups for the Kids Tug are: ages 6 and under, 7-10, and 11-13. Each team will consist of no less than six kids and no more than 10. For rules and application forms, visit: www.battleonthebernard.com.

Adult tug teams up to 20 strong (only 12 at a time will actually be doing the 2 minute tug) should be registered (registration is free) and signed in and ready to go for the first "tug" of the day scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. So… if you are involved in any organization - school bands, football teams, cheerleaders, volunteer fire departments, police departments, service organizations, or just a group of friends who would like to pull together, B.O.B. would like to see you at the "tug" with a team. Although teams can register up to the day of the event, early registration is appreciated. The first two teams to register will receive 12 free B.O.B. caps per team.
