For immediate release. Please announce the following not-for-profit event:
Count Down to a Tug-of-War - Battle On the Bernard Adds “Kids Tug”
Spring Break
is a great opportunity to join the competition of The Battle On the Bernard
(B.O.B.), a friendly tug of war brought to the public by West of the Brazos
communities, March 27, 2010. With 900 feet of “war” rope, trophies and ribbons,
a clean-up of the areas on the San Bernard River at the FM 2611 Sportsman
Span/Churchill Bridge, the family-friendly event is taking shape.
Battle On
the Bernard’s mascot, B.O.B. the pelican, invites everyone to investigate the
fun awaiting them on the San Bernard.
New this year is a tug for the youngsters - a “Kids Tug”. The children’s tug
will begin at 12:15 p.m. on the west side of the river. Those participating in
this event should be at the tug site by noon. The age groups for the Kids Tug
are: ages 6 and under, 7-10, and 11-13. Each team will consist of no less than 6
kids and no more than 10. For rules and application forms, visit:
www.battleonthebernard.com .
Adult tug
teams up to 20 strong (only 12 at a time will actually be doing the 2 minute
tug) should be registered (registration is free) and signed in and ready to go
for the first “tug” of the day scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. So… if you are
involved in any organization (school bands, football teams, cheerleaders,
volunteer fire departments, police departments, service organizations, or just a
group of friends who would like to pull together,
B.O.B. would like to see you at the “tug” with a team. Time is ticking
away, and though teams can register right up to the day of the event, early
registration is appreciated! The
first two teams to register will receive 12 free B.O.B. caps per team. For
registration, vendor and sponsorship forms or more information, go to
www.battleonthebernard.com.
If you are a
non-profit group, there are limited spaces for booths at the event for no
charge. There are also limited spaces for “for-profit” vendors. You may register
with the Brazoria, Sweeny, or West Columbia Chambers of Commerce or Pct. 4
county office in Brazoria, or application forms are available on the Battle On
the Bernard website.
In the
meantime, here’s a word about Tug-of-Wars from B.O.B. President, Pat Webb:
The Battle
On the Bernard is a unique event for the area providing entertainment for the
whole family. The Tug of War across a river is an idea that is picking up
momentum across the U.S. But as far as I know, a one of a kind event in the
state of Texas. The event will offer a great opportunity for expansion and
growth of community involvement and unity, while also providing tourism to the
area. While still in its infant stages, the Battle On the
Bernard is already proving to be a great success by bringing the West of the
Brazos
communities together, working on a single goal. The Tug of War, an annual event,
will continue to grow in both size and popularity. This year will be yet another
prime time to get in on the ground floor and establish yourself as being one of
the
competitors to beat in the future years. I encourage everyone to jump on the
rope and try to be the team to bring home the B.O.B. Championship Trophy from
the Battle On the Bernard. Join in today, sign up your team and let’s all pull
together.
Get ready to
show your community pride. Get out
there, gather your team, flex your muscles and get ready to tug. Battle On the
Bernard T-shirts are available for sale at Precinct 4 County Commissioner’s
office in Brazoria, or at the Sweeny, Brazoria, or West Columbia Chambers of
Commerce for $10.00. They will also be available at the event. Don’t forget to
check out the website,
www.battleonthebernard.com and check out
the latest B.O.B., the pelican, sightings. If you see B.O.B., be sure to send in
your sighting! B.O.B. is on vacation and is slowly making his way back to the
San Bernard in order to officiate over the contest and award the winners of the
first annual tug-of war.
